There are plenty of reasons someone would rent a dumpster, many of which we've covered, here, on this blog. One that is not so often touched on is decluttering before moving. That's why this month we've decided to share some pre-dumpster rental tips to get you ready for the big move!
1. Go Room by Room
Decluttering can be intimidating, especially if you have little ones with hectic schedules. That's why we encourage you to begin a decluttering process several months before the big move, as well as concentrating on one room at a time. Starting with the bedroom and spending half an hour here, and there deciding what goes to Goodwill, means that you'll end up with less to pack and less in the trash. There are some consignment stores that will pick up old furniture for you, thus eliminating the need to add it on top of your other dump-bound items.
2. Get the Whole Family Involved
Surprisingly, this works better with younger children than teens, but making decluttering an activity that involves rewards (think shop-till-you-drop style competition) is a great way to get some help around the house. It's also good to get kids thinking early about what they truly need in their lives and what they can give away.
Renting a dumpster when you need to move should not be a hassle. Call the professionals at Dumpsters Unlimited to ensure you won't get stuck with a mountain of trash.
